Taking the familiar shape of the rag rug, something can can be found in many homes around the world and cheaply available at any Ikea location for as little as $5 this rug removes the use from the object as it will eventually degrade and will not take much foot traffic. This is the first piece in a whole room installation and functions as decoration for the floor. As this installation is furthered over the semester hopefully the class will be able to experience the degradation of this rug as the sentimental shape is lasting and the natural degrades, rots or dries up and turns to dust.

Interior designers around the turn of the century and even into the 30’s and 40’s designed a women’s outfit to go with the interior. As a modern day example Barbra Streisand is known to dabble in matching her clothing to the upholstery of her couches and chairs. I chose a classic form for the dress to emulate the old fashioned idea of women matching their interior space. The dye of the dress matches the upholstery of chairs that will be included at a later date. The apron is again, like the Rotting Rug, a sentimental form that has been rendered useless and immaterial through use of natural material. This apron even goes beyond being useless and may even hinder movement while wearing it, contradicting the comfortable fit of the dress.

By the year 2073 the population of fresh water fish in the region previously known as Alberta was so significantly depleted that “Fly” Fishing was banned, this left hundreds of hobby fishermen in the area with nothing to do on Sunday afternoons but drink with each other. This drinking combined with plenty of leftover hook decorating materials led these fishermen to a new hobby jauntily named “Crittering”. The fishers redecorated their hooks to entice large birds to bite. They found they needed to decorate in a much larger scale, moving away from bugs and into small mammals, lizards and birds, thus the feeling to rename the decorated hooks from “Flies” to “Critters”. The prime areas for Crittering were in parkland areas in southern Alberta,
By 2080 the authorities had caught wind of Crittering, had noted the decline in large bird populations in the area and swiftly implemented a ban on hunting for large birds using this method. The fishermen involved stowed their tackle for the last time and a few decades later Calgary had been completely abandoned.
Mostly stop-motion. I am interested in the physical labour involved in this medium.
